Portland police are searching for a suspect in a Northeast Portland shooting.
Dozens of police officers searched for the suspect.

PORTLAND, Ore. – Portland police shut down a long stretch of Marine Drive while they searched for an armed suspect Friday afternoon.

Officers initially responded to a report of shots fired in the 12000 block of Northeast Airport Way just after 2 p.m.

Police later learned no shots were fired. Officers found the victim, who had been physically assaulted, at a McDonald's restaurant in the area.

Sgt. Pete Simpson said the suspect pistol-whipped the victim and pointed a gun at him before running away.

A witness told police the suspect ran toward Marine Drive.

Marine Drive was closed from Northeast 33rd to 122nd avenues while police searched for the suspect. Officers briefly closed Airport Way.

"We had a potentially armed suspect unaccounted for in a very large area," Simpson said.

The roads were reopened to traffic around 4:30 p.m.

Police called their Special Emergency Reaction Team (SERT) and a K-9 unit to the area.

The suspect was described as a black man in his 20s who is 5-foot-8 and 115 pounds. He was wearing a black sweatshirt with white letters on the back, and blue jeans.

A Port of Portland official told KGW the police activity had no impact on the airport.
