PORTLAND, Ore. — Three people were robbed at gunpoint early in the morning on Saturday, June 22, according to the Portland Police Bureau (PPB).
The incident occurred on Southwest Taylor Street and 14th Avenue around 12:37 a.m. on June 22. According to PPB, three people — a 28-year-old man, a 35-year-old woman and a 46-year-old man — were robbed on the street at gunpoint by two suspects, a man and a woman. One of the suspects shot the 28-year-old man in the leg and pistol-whipped the woman in the head.
A Portland officer was on Southwest Taylor Street and 14th Avenue when the group of three flagged her down. The officer helped the 28-year-old man who'd been shot in the leg while emergency services were on their way.
The man was later transported to the hospital with a non-life-threatening injury. The woman who had been pistol-whipped refused medical transport, according to PPB. The 46-year-old man had a scrape on his neck, possibly due to shrapnel, police said.
Officers arrested a 20-year-old woman a few minutes later. According to court documents, on Wednesday, July 10, more than two weeks after the arrest, all charges were dropped against her, and she was released from jail. The Oregonian reported that "surveillance-camera footage later became available that indicated officers had arrested the wrong person."
According to a probable cause affidavit, on the night of the shooting, two of the victims identified the woman as the shooter. She told police they had the wrong person. She said she'd been in the area when the shooting happened but was not involved. She told an officer that another woman named "Jayanna" was the shooter. When "Jayanna" approached the victims, the woman said she walked away and then heard a gunshot.
The investigation is continuing. No other arrests have been made. If anyone has information, email crimetips@police.portlandoregon.gov, attn: Major Crimes Unit, and reference case No. 24-153786.
