PORTLAND, Ore. — A suspect is in custody after police say they committed crimes spanning multiple counties on Monday morning.
Portland police said the suspect forcefully robbed someone of their vehicle downtown at Southwest 9th Avenue and Southwest Alder Street around 8:40 a.m. Police tracked the vehicle using GPS into Washington County, back to Multnomah County and then into Columbia County.
The Columbia County Sheriff's Office said that deputies learned the suspect had resurfaced in Scappoose at Pro Automotive & Diesel along Highway 30. A shooting was reported around 11:10 a.m., and the sheriff's office said that the suspect had fired at someone. There were no injuries in the shooting.
Police said the suspect attempted to carjack another person before taking off in the car they'd stolen back in Portland. They then started driving back into Multnomah County at speeds up to 80 mph while veering into oncoming traffic.
Officers used spike strips and other pursuit intervention techniques to stop the vehicle on Highway 30 in the Linnton area.
Police arrested Buomkouth J. Chuol, 28. There is no word just yet what charges they face.
This is a developing story and will be updated with more details as they emerge.
