PORTLAND, Ore. – A man was arrested Sunday after he allegedly threatened a loss prevention officer with a knife at a Portland Fred Meyer store the day before.
A loss prevention officer at the Interstate Fred Meyer told Portland police the man pulled a knife on him after he caught the man shoplifting. The man, identified as 24-year-old Eric Alan Van Nice, fled from the store.
The loss prevention officer had known Van Nice from previous encounters, police said.
On Sunday, another loss prevention officer spotted Van Nice and called 911. Police searched the area and found Van Nice in a tent near the store and Interstate 5.
Detectives searched Van Nice’s tent and seized the knife he allegedly used.
Van Nice was booked into the Multnomah County Jail on first and second degree robbery charges.
