PORTLAND, Ore. — Police have detained one person after a search that lasted several hours following a shooting at a North Portland hotel Wednesday morning that left one man dead.
Around 7:15 a.m., officers responded to reports of a shooting and found a man injured in the parking lot of Quality Inn & Suites along Northeast 82nd Avenue. The man was transported to a hospital via ambulance but died, according to a Portland Police Bureau (PPB) news release.
The man's death is being investigated as a homicide. No immediate arrests were made, and police said it was not clear whether the "suspect or suspects" had left the hotel. A Special Emergency Reaction Team (SERT) and crisis negotiators responded to assist in securing the crime scene. The hotel parking lot was closed during the investigation.
In a subsequent news release Wednesday afternoon, PPB said SERT finished searching the hotel at 2:40 p.m., and one person had been "detained for further investigation" at 1:13 p.m., but did not specify whether the person was detained inside the hotel or any other circumstances about the shooting and search.
