PORTLAND, Ore. — A 26-year-old mother of three was shot and killed early Sunday morning in Southeast Portland, according to the woman's family.
Officers responded to the intersection of Southeast Foster Road and 86th Avenue around 4:08 a.m. and found a total of three people with gunshot wounds. One person died and two others were taken to the hospital with life-threatening injuries, according to Portland police.
A family member told KGW that Cali Bolden was shot and killed. Bolden leaves behind three young children ages 8, 2 and 10 1/2 months old, according to the family member. They also said that Bolden's husband unexpectedly died 11 months ago.
Portland police have confirmed her identity.
Shootings have become more common around the Foster Road neighborhood, neighbors said.
“It’s getting bad out here. It’s really bad out here,” said David Quintero, a neighbor.
Some people are considering moving out of the southeast Portland neighborhood due to the crime.
“It makes me want to move actually," Quintero said. "Out of Portland.”
Quintero said he doesn't let his three children out of the house unless they are supervised because of the rise in crime. He's also cut back on visiting local parks.
Others said they have already moved away from the area.
“I just had to move out to a safer place," said Israel Rayo, who works at a nearby gas station. "I have two kids, and every time I would wake up, they would wake up hearing cops and everything.”
Police have not said what led to the shooting or if they are looking for any suspects.
A group of people gathered for a candlelight vigil on Sunday evening.
The deadly shooting marks Portland's 58th homicide of the year and the fourth in nine days.
There have been 50 fatal shootings this year. The Portland Police Bureau's dashboard shows 725 shootings as of the end of August.
Neighbors that KGW spoke with said they hope there is more policing in the neighborhood to tamp down on crime. That's a goal Portland Mayor Ted Wheeler shares.
In a recent statement, Wheeler said re-staffing the police bureau is a priority. He said since 2022, Portland Police has added 126 staff members, though more are needed.
The intersection of Southeast Foster Road and 86th Avenue was closed well into the morning as homicide detectives investigated and collected evidence.
Anyone with information about the shooting is asked to contact Detective Jeffrey McGuire or Detective Jeff Sharp and reference case number 23-270284.
This is a developing story and will be updated as more information becomes available.
