Shooting in Northeast Portland leaves 1 dead

Portland police found a man dead in the Wilkes neighborhood on Northeast Fremont Street after reports of gunfire Monday evening.

PORTLAND, Ore. — One person is dead after a shooting in the Wilkes neighborhood of Northeast Portland, according to the Portland Police Bureau.

Officers responded just after 5:45 p.m. Monday evening to reports of gunfire on Northeast Fremont Street near Northeast 162nd Avenue. While still headed to the scene, police learned that a victim had been found. They arrived to find a male who died at the scene, PPB said.

The victim's identity will not be released until their family members have been notified and the county medical examiner has confirmed cause of death.

Police closed Northwest Fremont Street between Northeast 154th and 162nd avenues for the investigation. PPB's homicide detectives were responding to take over the scene.
