SEASIDE, Ore. — A teenager accused of attacking someone and stealing their Ford Mustang in Seaside on Oct. 27 was taken into custody on Tuesday night, the city of Seaside reported Wednesday.
The suspect, 18-year-old Isaiah J. Thompson, was taken into custody in Washington County at around 7:44 p.m. Tuesday and transferred to Clatsop County Jail, where he was booked at 1:45 a.m. Wednesday. Thompson faces numerous charges, including second-degree attempted murder, first-degree robbery, unlawful use of a weapon, unauthorized use of a vehicle, eluding and reckless driving.
The victim, who was taken to Columbia Memorial Hospital in Astoria after the attack and was in critical condition, has been released from the hospital, according to the city of Seaside.
Thompson is accused of attacking someone in Seaside early in the morning on Friday, Oct. 27, and then stealing their vehicle, a Ford Mustang. Police said Thompson led officers and deputies from multiple law-enforcement agencies on a high-speed chase in the stolen Mustang from Seaside to Hillsboro.
A Washington County Sheriff's Office deputy who spotted Thompson said he was driving "well over 100 mph" even when officers weren't in pursuit. Thompson eventually crashed the Mustang in Hillsboro and escaped on foot, police said. Law enforcement from Beaverton, Hillsboro and Tigard helped search for Thompson but were unable to find him. He was spotted on a TriMet train by Hillsboro police but was able to get off the train somewhere in Portland.
Court records show Thompson is also accused of stealing a car and running from police in Multnomah County. He pleaded not guilty on Oct. 18 and is due back in court the first week of December.
