PORTLAND, Ore. — After more than seven hours, a SWAT team took a man accused of breaking into and barricading inside a home in Fairview into custody on Thursday.
The owner of a home on Bridge Street, just off Northeast 223rd Avenue, called 911 around 3:30 p.m. to report that a man they didn't know was trying to break into their home, the Multnomah County Sheriff's Office said. The caller and other people inside the home were able to get out safely. Deputies set up a perimeter around the home to keep the man "contained" to a single location and protect neighbors, the sheriff's office said.
During the 911 call, deputies learned that the man, later identified as 49-year-old Bradley Wyatt, may have had access to weapons, but the sheriff's office didn't provide any further details. The East Metro SWAT team — made up of Multnomah County Sheriff's deputies, Gresham police — responded to the home.
The SWAT team obtained an arrest warrant for Wyatt, entered the home and took him into custody around 11 p.m.
No one was injured.
Wyatt was charged with burglary in the first degree and criminal mischief in the first degree, but may face additional charges, the sheriff's office said. He is being held in jail on a state parole violation.
This is a developing story and will be updated with more information as it becomes available.
