PORTLAND, Ore. — One person is injured after a police shooting in Portland's Woodlawn neighborhood on Sept. 26, according to the Portland Police Bureau (PPB).
At 6:21 p.m., PPB detectives and Special Emergency Reaction Team (SERT) members were attempting to arrest a man wanted for violent felonies involving a firearm in the 7000 block of Northeast 17th Avenue near Northeast Bryant Street.
When police approached the man, there was "an exchange of gunfire," and three PPB officers assigned to SERT fired their guns.
The man was injured and given first aid by a SERT paramedic on the scene, then was transported to a hospital in an ambulance. He is currently in police custody and has non-life-threatening injuries, PPB said.
Police later identified him as 24-year-old Jesse James West. West was booked into the Multnomah County Detention Center on two counts of first-degree attempted murder and other warrants.
The man's gun was seized as evidence at the scene.
No officers were injured.
The officers who shot the man will be placed on paid administrative leave, as per protocol, PPB said.
