PORTLAND, Ore. — Officers said a man who is reportedly armed with a gun in the Powellhurst-Gilbert neighborhood of Southeast Portland has been taken into custody, according to the Portland Police Bureau. At least one home was evacuated, but no injuries have been reported.

The suspect, who has not been identified, is in custody as of late Tuesday evening; the perimeter will be clearing soon, PPB said. At this time, there are no known threats to the public.

At around 1:43 p.m., Portland police responded to reports of a man reportedly armed with a gun near 4500 Southeast 122nd Avenue. The man had stolen an item from a person, who was not injured, at a TriMet bus stop, according to the Multnomah County Sheriff's Office.

PPB said the suspect ran into the neighborhood when officers found him and informed him that he was under arrest. Police tactical teams, including The Portland Police Special Emergency Reaction Team (SERT) and the Crisis Negotiation Team (CNT), were activated early Tuesday evening.

Officers have set up a perimeter and believe they have contained the suspect. Traffic is restricted in and around the area of Southeast 124th Avenue to Southeast 128th Avenue, Southeast Harold Avenue and Southeast Reedway Avenue. Resources for searching included drones over the Southeast Portland area.

The area of a perimeter has been set near Pizza Hut, Plaid Pantry, Master Movers Moving & Storage, vacant lot and with some apartments and homes nearby. The block where the search for the suspect is ongoing is not too far from Gilbert Heights Elementary school. Police said residents have been notified via the Public Alerts system.

At least one home in the 12700 block of Southeast Reedway Street has been evacuated, police said. Students from the nearby Alice Ott Middle School are being cared for at the school, and their families have been notified. A Portland Police School Liaison officer is also working with the David Douglas School District.

PPB has not released any further details regarding the suspect.

This is a developing story and will be updated as most information becomes available.
