PORTLAND, Ore. — A man was arrested Thursday in California for the Jan. 8 fatal shooting of a man in Southeast Portland's Hazelwood neighborhood, the Portland Police Bureau (PPB) reported.
Deshawn Pledger, 30, of Portland, was found dead on the night of Monday, Jan. 8, in the area of Southeast 106th Avenue near Division Street. The medical examiner determined that Pledger died of homicide by gunshot wound.
PPB homicide detectives identified a suspect, 32-year-old Xavier V. Lucas, and the case was referred to the Multnomah County District Attorney's Office. On Thursday, Lucas was arrested by U.S. Marshals in Hesperia, California.
Lucas was booked into a detention center in Rancho Cucamonga, California, on an arrest warrant for second-degree murder and felon in possession of a firearm. Proceedings to request extradition to Multnomah County are underway.
