PORTLAND -- A Portland man has been sentenced to life in prison for the 2012 Christmas Day murder of Jaime Lyn Larson.
Michael James Kirkland, 39, pleaded guilty to multiple charges Monday in connection to Larson's death, according to Sgt. Pete Simpson of Portland police.
Larson, 22, was found dead in her apartment on Southwest Park Avenue on the night of Dec. 25, 2012. On Jan. 3, Kirkland was arrested at his home on 1212 SW Clay Street by the U.S. Marshals Oregon Fugitive Task Force.
At his arraignment, Kirkland was accused of three counts of aggravated murder, which could result in the death penalty. Prosecutors also said he raped the victim before killing her, according to court documents.
Detectives said Larson met Kirkland just hours before her death.
In court Monday, Kirkland pleaded guilty to aggravated murder, strangulation, abuse of a corpse, burglary and theft. He was sentenced to life in prison, Simpson said.
