PORTLAND, Ore. — A man is in custody after breaking into a Portland fire station on Wednesday. Fire crews could tell each spot the man visited from an open cut he had, which left droppings of blood throughout the station.

The man was seen by a bank employee across the street banging an object against the windows of Portland Fire & Rescue Station 26, located at 5247 North Lombard Street while the fire crew was out performing its duties, Portland Fire & Rescue said.

He entered through the broken window and explored the station. It's unclear if that's when the injury occurred.

"(He) investigated the entire station and just kind of wandered around and dripped blood throughout the entire station," said Rick Graves, public information officer for Portland Fire & Rescue.

Portland Fire & Rescue called in a biohazard cleaning company to clean Fire Station 26 after it was broken into and blood dripped everywhere.

Graves added that the bank across the street noticed the man and called 911.

"It doesn't appear that this individual was acting aggressively or maliciously toward the fire service," Graves said. "It was just sort of an unfortunate situation that happened, and they acted upon their impulses."

A professional biohazard mitigation company has been called in to sanitize the station. Fire crews are operating as normal, Graves said.

The incident is under investigation with the Portland Police Bureau.
