VANCOUVER, Wash. — A Vancouver man is dead after being struck by an alleged intoxicated driver going the wrong way on Interstate 5 Saturday morning.
At 12:09 a.m., a car was traveling south in the northbound lanes on Interstate 5 near the Mill Plain exit, according to the Washington State Patrol. The car then struck another vehicle in one of the northbound lanes, hitting it head on.
It took ten minutes for the Vancouver Fire Department to free the driver of the hit car, Stephen M. Wesley. Wesley, 67, was transported to PeaceHealth Southwest Medical Center but later died at the hospital. The driver of the wrong-way vehicle, Amy M. Gaudette, was uninjured.
Gaudette, 43, of Portland has been charged with DUII and vehicular homicide, the Washington State Patrol said.
