PORTLAND, Ore. — A man has been arrested after allegedly stealing a van late Thursday evening, Portland Police Bureau (PPB) said.

Officers responded to Southeast Harold Street and Southeast 128th Avenue at 11:19 p.m., where they received a report of shots fired amid an armed robbery.

When police arrived, the stolen Ford Econoline van was driving away. Police then arrested the driver, Robert M. Morgan. Morgan was booked into the Multnomah County Detention Center with multiple charges, including second-degree attempted murder and first-degree robbery.

Police said Morgan had fired shots into the van, which was occupied, then handed the gun to an associate, assaulting a man before stealing the van. Two others who had been involved in the robbery drove away in a purple Suzuki SUV.

The victim was transported to a local hospital for minor injuries related to the assault, PPB said. It is not known what his condition is at this time.

Police later found the stolen SUV in the parking lot of a convenience store at Southeast 122nd Avenue and Southeast Powell Boulevard. They then arrested two Portland men, Zachary A. Rose and Jeremy A. Bute, "under unrelated arrest warrants," police said. A firearm was found inside of the SUV, which police suspect to be the same one used in the shooting.

PPB said this is an active investigation. Anyone with information can contact Detective Brett Hawkinson at brett.hawkinson@police.portlandoregon.gov or crimetips@police.portlandoregon.gov. Please reference case number 24-44559.
