PORTLAND, Oregon — Portland police have identified a man who was found dead last week in the Powellhurst-Gilbert neighborhood. The case was previously being investigated as a suspicious death, but has now been confirmed as a homicide, according to a Monday news release from the Portland Police Bureau.

The medical examiner has confirmed that the victim, 41-year-old Christopher M. McMillan, died from a gunshot wound, according to the news release. His family has been notified of his death. Police have not released any other details about the circumstances of his death.

Police previously announced that east precinct officers had conducted a welfare check on Southeast 90th Place about a block north of Powell Boulevard shortly before noon on Feb. 27, and found one person deceased. The PPB homicide unit was called in due to suspicious circumstances found at the scene, according to a prior news release on Wednesday afternoon, and the surrounding block of Southeast 90th Place was closed during the investigation on Tuesday afternoon.

The case remains active, police said on Monday, and anyone with information about the case is asked to contact Detective Sean Macomber at 503-823-0404 or Detective Eric McDaniel at 503-823-0833 and reference case number 24-48302.
