Police identify officer shot, suspect killed in Dallas, Ore. shooting

DALLAS, Ore. – A police officer shot in Dallas, Oregon Friday evening has been identified, as has the suspect who was killed after firing shots at the officer.

DALLAS, Ore. – A police officer shot in Dallas, Oregon Friday evening has been identified, as has the suspect who was killed after firing shots at the officer.

The incident began shortly before 5:30 p.m. when three officers responded to a complaint about a man who appeared to be intoxicated at a Walmart parking lot.

Officers attempted to take 36-year-old Jeremiah N. Anderson into custody for DUII. However, Anderson resisted arrest and fired as many as two rounds at officers, including a bullet that struck the leg of Sgt. Rob Hatchell, according to Oregon State Police. Sgt. Hatchell and Officer Mike Fleming returned fire, shooting Anderson, who was pronounced dead at the scene.

Sgt. Hatchell was released from the hospital shortly after receiving treatment for his injuries.

Officer Fleming was not injured and Officer Aaron Mollahan, who also responded to the scene, was not hurt.

Investigators located Anderson’s gun at the scene.

All three officers have been placed on paid administrative leave pending the outcome of the investigation, which is standard protocol.
