PORTLAND, Ore. — A man was taken into custody after he hit another man with the butt of a rifle and fired a gun, leading to the evacuation of neighbors in Southeast Portland on Sunday evening, according to police.
The suspect, 42-year-old Jason Wicker, is being held at the Multnomah County Jail and faces multiple charges, including fourth-degree domestic assault, two counts of domestic menacing and two counts of unlawful use of a weapon.
Portland police responded to the 5000 block of Southeast 118th Avenue just after 5 p.m. on a report of a domestic violence assault.
The victim, a man, and witnesses met officers outside, away from the home where the alleged assault occurred. They told police Wicker was still inside the home and armed with several guns.
Wicker later exited the home and officers heard gunfire, believed to be from the suspect, according to Portland police. Additional officers were called for assistance and to evacuate neighboring homes.
Wicker eventually ran toward officers and was taken into custody, police said. He was then transported to a hospital for assessment before being booked into jail.
The victim was assessed by medics at the scene and did not need to be taken to a hospital. No one was injured from the gunfire, police said.
An investigation is ongoing. If anyone has information about Wicker or this investigation, they should contact Det. Karna Bernard at 503-823-0881 or karna.barnard@portlandoregon.gov or Officer David Hughes at 503-823-4106 or david.hughes@portlandoregon.gov.
