Judge sentences Oregon City man to life in prison for killing wife

On Nov. 13, 2023, Anthony Wessel turned himself over to police after killing his wife, 37-year-old Anna Wessel.

PORTLAND, Oregon — An Oregon City man has been sentenced to life in prison for shooting and killing his wife in 2023. Anthony Wessel, 41, was sentenced on Wednesday. He will be eligible for parole after he has served 25 years in prison.

On Nov. 13, 2023, Wessel went to the lobby of the Oregon City Police Department and turned himself in for killing his wife, 37-year-old Anna Wessel. He told police that he fatally shot her inside their home on Squire Drive.

Police officers found Anna Wessel dead inside the home and a note written by Anthony Wessel. The note said that he'd planned a murder-suicide and that he decided to turn himself in, according to Oregon City Police. The police department also said officers found other written materials that indicated Anthony Wessel had planned the crime.

"First and foremost, the Oregon City Police Department sends our heartfelt condolences to Anna’s family and all the community members who have been forever impacted by Mr. Wessel’s actions," the Oregon City Police said in a news release. "We will continue to keep you in our thoughts as you navigate the grief associated with losing Anna."
