ONTARIO, Ore. — Police say the person of interest in an Ontario homicide Tuesday has been found dead Wednesday night.
Malheur County District Attorney David Goldthorpe says police found the body of Conner Fry when they went to arrest him on a warrant shortly after 7 p.m. at a home in Ontario.
Police said they saw Fry exit a shed and took cover in nearby dense vegetation. As police were getting into position they heard a muffled gunshot.
According to police, they deployed tear gas and shot nonlethal rounds in an attempt for him to come out, and when he didn't approached the location. He was found not moving zip tie restraints were placed on his wrist and he had no pulse. He was found lying on a shotgun.
Goldthorpe says Fry appeared to have died by suicide.
Fry was listed as a person of interest in the death of Daniela Perez, 24, Tuesday. Her body was found inside the trunk of her car after she was reported missing earlier in the day.
Police say they were first notified about a woman who went missing under suspicious circumstances Tuesday around 4:30 p.m. Her car was also reported missing.
Using On-Star, officers say they were able to locate her car in a parking lot in downtown Ontario that belonged to the Ontario School District.
When police arrived, they say they found Perez dead inside the trunk of the car.
Police believe she was killed and the case is being investigated as a criminal homicide.
KTVB reached out to the Perez family Wednesday and they sent us a series of statements about Daniela.
"My beautiful child was a strong person as strong as her beautiful smile," her mom said.
Daniela's sister said: "Her beautiful soul didn’t deserve anything like this. She had finally found someone that made her happy and she had her whole life planned out. She was going to be first gen. I’ve always admired her and always will."
"Dani was a kind and gentle soul," her boyfriend Marco told KTVB. "Her life was precious and for something like this to happen to someone so innocent is absolutely horrible."
A Gofundme page has been set up for people to donate to help with her funeral expenses.
"Law enforcement has worked tirelessly through the night and continue to follow leads, gather evidence and attempt to identify persons involved," Malheur County District Attorney David Goldthorpe said in a press release.
In a news release, Goldthorpe said Fry appeared to have died from a self-inflicted shotgun wound.
Police continue to investigate and said more information will be made available Thursday.
We will update this story as new information becomes available.
