PORTLAND, Ore. — A man died Monday afternoon following a shooting in the Montavilla neighborhood of Northeast Portland. No arrests have been made, and no one has been detained, according to a news release from the Portland Police Bureau (PPB).
On Tuesday, police identified the victim as 18-year-old Jamirion Smith-Belhumeur. The medical examiner said Smith-Belhumeur died from a gunshot wound.
East Precinct officers were called to a report of the shooting at Northeast Glisan Street and Northeast 93rd Avenue at 4:25 p.m. Monday and found a man suffering from at least one gunshot wound, according to the PPB news release. The officers attempted lifesaving measures, but the man died at the scene.
Northeast Glisan Street was closed from Northeast 90th Avenue to Interstate 205 while the Portland Police Bureau's Homicide Unit investigated the scene, PPB said. Multiple layers of police crime scene tape could be seen strung across the length of Northeast Glisan Street at the intersection with Northeast 90th Avenue at around 5:30 p.m. Monday, along with multiple police vehicles parked in the closed block.
