PORTLAND, Ore. — Portland police have released the identity of a man killed in a shooting in North Portland early Friday afternoon. The medical examiner has confirmed Alejandro Mondragon, 44, died from a gunshot wound, according to a news release from the Portland Police Bureau on Monday.
Officers responded just after 12:30 p.m. Friday to the area near the intersection of Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard and North Gertz Road, and found a man dead at the scene.
No arrests were made and no one has been detained, PPB said at the time. The agency's homicide unit responded to take over the investigation, and streets in the area were blocked while they work to gather evidence.
Monday's news release did not include any additional details about the circumstances of the shooting, and no further news about any possible suspects. The now-confirmed homicide is the 23rd in Portland since the beginning of the year.
Anyone with information about the shooting is asked to contact Detective Stephen Gandy at stephen.gandy@police.portlandoregon.gov, (503) 823-0449, or Detective Jeffery Pontius at jeffery.pontius@police.portlandoregon.gov, (503) 823-0433, and reference case number 24-89948.
This is a developing story and will be updated with more details as they emerge.
