BEAVERTON, Ore. — The man accused of murdering a Beaverton nurse appeared in a Washington County courtroom Tuesday. Bryce Schubert, 27, was arrested over the weekend and charged with murdering 32-year-old Melissa Jubane. KGW also learned that he’s facing kidnapping charges and abuse of a corpse.
In the brief court proceeding Tuesday the case was assigned a judge. A preliminary hearing in the case is scheduled for Sept. 16.
Jubane was reported missing last week, after she failed to show up for work at Providence St. Vincent Medical Center where she worked as a nurse.
The dean of the nursing program at the University of Portland, Joane Moceri said the campus still can’t believe what happened. She described it as “devastating” and “shocking.”
September Nelson was one of Jubane’s professors when she was going through the nursing program at the University of Portland.
“She was always happy," said Nelson. "I have images of her helping and working with her colleagues."
Nelson added, “I always have a relationship with my students and I call them my patients sometimes, because that’s how I care for my students."
Jubane had recently got married, and the one thing Nelson has been thinking about over the weekend is her family — especially her husband — just starting a life together.
Moceri said the University of Portland is on the process of planning a memorial service for Jubane. A vigil was held at Ridgewood View Park in the Cedar Hills area Monday night.
