Man on Portland's Gateway Green Park bike trail attacked by suspect with machete

The Portland Police Bureau said that they have arrested a suspect, who is facing felony assault charges.

PORTLAND, Ore. — A man went to the hospital after being attacked on the Gateway Green trail by a person with a machete early Saturday afternoon. 

At 11:36 a.m., police responded to Northeast 92nd Avenue and found a man who had been cut in the arm while on an off-road bike trail in Gateway Green Park. The suspect, 37-year-old Victor A. Peterson, fled the scene. Witnesses and the victim, who has not been identified, provided a description of the suspect, and police were able to find him. A machete was also seized as evidence. 

Officers arrested and booked him into the Multnomah County Detention Center on charges of second-degree assault and unlawful use of a weapon. 

The man was seriously injured and went to the hospital, the Portland Police Bureau (PPB) said.
