MOLALLA, Ore. — A student was taken into custody after a social media post that included a specific threat to Molalla River Middle School caused the district to cancel classes Friday, the Molalla Police Department reported.
The decision was made Thursday to cancel Friday's classes across the district, according to a letter sent to the district community from the superintendent, who said the district and Molalla police made the decision together after learning of the social media threat. The district said it worked with police to assess and address the threat.
The social media post, posted Wednesday, said, "Your (sic) next Molalla river middle school September 26/27" and contained lime-green emoji guns. A student came forward and shared the picture with a teacher Wednesday morning. The district shared the image with Molalla police.
After a thorough investigation, a student at Molalla River Middle School was taken into custody.
"It is important to say something if you see or hear of anything immediately," Molalla police said in a news release. "Reporting to police, a teacher or administrator immediately is encouraged."
Schools will reopen on Monday, the superintendent said in a Friday email to families and staff. Police are not pursuing additional suspects.
