Portland police identify man killed after downtown shooting on Sept. 4

PORTLAND, Ore. — Police have identified a man who died after he was shot in downtown Portland on Sept. 4. No one has been arrested.

Malik Wilkerson, 21, was taken to the hospital following a shooting at 3:36 a.m. in the area of Southwest 3rd Avenue and Southwest Ankeny Street, according to Portland police. The suspect, or suspects, left the area before officers arrived. Wilkerson died at the hospital. 

The medical examiner determined he died from a gunshot wound and ruled his death a homicide, Portland police said on Sept. 20.

A witness working in the area told KGW he saw a group of people standing in the parking lot and heard some of them arguing before several shots were fired. 

Portland police has not released any additional details about what led up to the shooting.
