Man killed in Old Town neighborhood shooting identified

Police responded to a shooting at Northwest 3rd Avenue and Northwest Everett Street and found a victim who later succumbed to his injuries.

PORTLAND, Ore. — One man is dead following a shooting in Old Town the day after Fourth of July, according to the Portland Police Bureau (PPB). 

On Friday, Portland Police Bureau identified the man as 35-year-old Jose L. Galindo-Maldonado. The Medical Examiner said Galindo-Maldonado died of a gunshot wound.

Around 11:48 p.m. on July 5, officers heard shots fired from the area of Northwest 3rd Avenue and Northwest Everett Street and found an man who'd been shot. EMS was called and provided trauma first aid before the man was transported to a hospital for treatment. The man died from his injuries after two hours of life-saving efforts by hospital staff, police said. 

According to police, the suspect or suspects left the scene before police arrived and were not located. No arrests have been made and police are not releasing any suspect description at this time.

During the investigation, Northwest 3rd Avenue was closed between Northwest Flanders Street and Northwest Davis Street. Northwest Everett Street was closed between Northwest 2nd Avenue and Northwest 4th Avenue.
