GRESHAM, Ore — The man who shot and killed a former Barlow High School standout athlete outside his home in Gresham has been found guilty, according to the Multnomah County District Attorney's Office.
On Tuesday, a jury delivered a guilty verdict for 26-year-old Alec James Baldridge, who was charged with fatally shooting and killing 20-year-old Dominic Jacoby. Baldridge was charged with second-degree murder with a firearm and unlawful use of a weapon with a firearm.
On Aug. 13, 2021, Jacoby was found dead in the street near his home. Gresham police later obtained surveillance video that showed a dark sedan driving into the area around the time of the crime and leaving afterward, along with person walking alone in the area of the shooting.
Detectives learned that Baldridge and Jacoby had agreed to meet because Baldridge owed Jacoby a large sum of money; the two had been involved in selling marijuana together. The last logged exchange was a call that occurred roughly three minutes before Jacoby’s murder, police said.
Though Baldridge, according to an affidavit of probable cause, denied going to Jacoby's house on the night of the murder, detectives found out otherwise via Baldridge's location tracking data on his phone.
Jacoby was remembered fondly as a talented football and baseball player, with Barlow principal Bruce Schmidt telling KGW in 2021, "He was the kind of kid every coach wanted on their team for his fierce competitive nature. I know this will be felt throughout the community and our best should be sent to his family and friends."
Sentencing for Baldridge, who remains in custody, is scheduled for July 12.
