LAKE OSWEGO, Ore. — A Lake Oswego man pleaded guilty on Monday to three felony charges stemming from an incident last summer when he drugged three 12-year-old girls during a sleepover hosted by his daughter at their home.
Michael Jay Meyden, 57, pleaded guilty in Clackamas County Circuit Court to three counts of Causing Another Person to Ingest a Controlled Substance. He was sentenced to two years in prison with three years of parole after his release.
Police were called to Randall Children's Hospital on Aug. 26, 2023, and told that three 12-year-old girls were being treated after reportedly ingesting a prescription drug while at a sleepover at a friend's house. Detectives investigating the incident concluded that Meyden had made smoothies for the children at the sleepover and laced them with prescription sedatives.
The charges stemmed from an investigation by the Lake Oswego Police Department. Meyden turned himself in to the Clackamas County jail on Feb. 29.
According to court documents, the girls told police that Meyden had prepared the smoothies sometime after 9 p.m. and there were "tiny white chunks throughout and sprinkled on top." One of the girls, who pretended to be asleep, said Meyden kept doing tests during the night to see if they were all asleep, waving a hand in front of their faces.
The girl texted a family member to pick her up, and when her parents arrived, she told them to contact the other girls' parents, who arrived around 3 a.m. Neither of Meyden's two children were named as victims in the court documents.
