PORTLAND, Ore. — One person was arrested following at knife attack at a MAX station in Northeast Portland Wednesday night, according to the Multnomah County Sheriff's Office.
The incident happened at or near the NE Holladay/7th Ave MAX station, although the sheriff's office said transit police are still reviewing surveillance video to figure out whether it happened on on the platform or on a train.
The victim was slashed in the leg by another person, who then left the scene but was followed by transit security officers. Transit police arrived and found the victim still on the platform, and they were taken to a hospital with injuries that police described as not life-threatening. The transit security officers helped transit police locate the suspect, who was then arrested.
The station was shut down for at least two hours due to the police investigation. Police did not say exactly when the incident happened, but TriMet sent out a service alert just after 8 p.m. saying that trains heading to Hillsboro would be delayed due to police activity at the NE 7th Ave station.
A subsequent alert a few minutes later said shuttle buses would replace train service between the Convention Center station and E 102nd Ave (the shuttle buses were previously running between NE 7th Ave and E 102nd Ave due to the ongoing construction-related closure of the section of the MAX system that runs along Interstate 84).
Police have not released any further details about the circumstances of the incident or what led to the knife attack, and have not released the identity of the attacker.
