IED explosion injures officer, damages police patrol vehicle

BEAVERTON, Ore. — A Beaverton police officer was injured and his patrol vehicle was damaged when an improvised explosive device (IED) exploded as he was driving by early Thursday morning.

The explosion happened around 2 a.m. It shattered the window of the his patrol vehicle. The officer suffered minor injuries.

The officer reported that he saw a flash and heard an explosion before the window in the passenger side of his patrol vehicle burst. It also caused damage to the door of the vehicle.

An investigation by the Beaverton police department found that the explosion was caused by an IED.

The Beaverton police were not able to locate a suspect who made or used the device. 

"Reminder - Fireworks are dangerous. Using fireworks to create IED's/ Bombs is even more dangerous. It's also a Felony. We want everyone to have a Happy 4th of July! Please be safe!" the Beaverton Police Department wrote in a social media post.
