PORTLAND, Ore. — Deputies arrested two teenagers after they were seen pulling out handguns at a Vancouver park near I-205 and Fourth Plain Boulevard late Monday afternoon, according to the Clark County Sheriff's Office.
Someone called 911 around 4:45 p.m. to reported seeing two teens pulling bandanas and a "black handgun" from a backpack at Orchards Community Park. As deputies arrived at the scene, multiple witnesses said they'd heard a gunshot at the north end of the park and had seen two teens walking in the area.
Deputies started to surround the area and saw the teens run further into the woods, heading toward I-205, the sheriff's office said. More officers traveling along I-205 saw the pair walking northbound on the shoulder of the freeway, prompting a halt to traffic.
As a sheriff's office drone followed the two teens, deputies tried approaching them. CCSO said the pair ran back into the woods, heading east toward a home. They were then seen "shedding several items of clothing" in the backyard of the house.
Deputies caught one of the teens, a boy, in the driveway of the house, taking him into custody. A K-9 later tracked down the other teen, a girl, after she was seen running behind the house along the fence line.
Tucked between the fences between I-205 and the home where deputies caught the boy, deputies found two loaded handguns. They also found "numerous bandanas" and articles of clothing.
CCSO said the two juveniles, ages 13 and 14, were booked into the Clack County Juvenile Detention Hall on charges of unlawful possession of a firearm, unlawful discharge of a firearm and resisting arrest.
By roughly 6:45 p.m. the closure on I-205 at Fourth Plain had been cleared and traffic appeared to be moving as normal again.
