HILLSBORO, Oregon — A man is dead after being shot by police on Sunday. The Beaverton Police Department identified him Thursday as 28-year-old Christopher William Andrews of Hillsboro.
Hillsboro police officers responded to an apartment on Northeast Miriam Way and Wheelock Place around 10:20 a.m. Sunday after they were told a man was inside with a woman who had a court-ordered restraining order against him. Andrews had also been previously arrested for and convicted of domestic violence against her.
When police entered the apartment, they discovered Andrews was holding the victim hostage in a bedroom, according to the Beaverton Police Department. They then proceeded to negotiate with Andrews before attempting a rescue.
During the attempt, the two officers, Sufyan Sher and David Bonn, fired their service weapons, killing Andrews, according to the Beaverton Police Department.
Police said that woman had minor injuries, while none of the officers were injured.
"This is an open investigation. In the interest of ensuring the integrity of the investigation and respecting the privacy of those involved, further details will be released as the investigation progresses," the Washington County Major Crimes Team stated.
The officers involved are on paid administrative leave pending the outcome of an investigation, as is standard procedure with shootings involving law enforcement.
