'We miss him a lot': Hillsboro family pleads for answers after veteran is killed in hit-and-run

Hillsboro police say they're still working to identify the driver of a dark pick-up truck that hit and killed 33-year-old Christopher Aguilera on May 16.

HILLSBORO, Oregon — An Oregon family is pleading for answers after 33-year-old Christopher Aguilera was hit and killed on May 16.

According to Hillsboro police, at around 10:08 p.m., officers responded to a traffic collision involving a vehicle and a pedestrian at Southeast TV Highway and Southeast Cypress Street. Police said first responders tried to save Aguilera's life, but he unfortunately didn't survive his injuries.

His family tells KGW they are devastated.

"I've been depressed. I just can't see it happening," said Aguilera's mom, Janet Aguilera. "I just close my eyes, and I keep seeing an accident happen that I was not here for him."

Janet Aguilera shares Christopher Aguilera was a veteran who served in Afghanistan. And while she hasn't seen him in three years, she recalls his deep love for family and the outdoors.

"He had a good sense of humor, and he knew how to make people laugh," said Janet. "I miss him a lot."

Hillsboro police say no one has been arrested, though they are working on getting more surveillance video they hope will help them with this investigation. But for now, they're looking for this dark colored pickup truck in the photos below.:

And while the family can't get him back, they're begging for the public's help in identifying who killed Christopher Aguilera.

"He's got brothers and sisters that care about him. And we miss him a lot," said Christopher Aguilera's uncle Joe.

His uncle also tells KGW he hasn't seen Christopher in two years and is struggling with this news.

"It's impossible for me to fathom that people are that inconsiderate of a human life," said Joe. "He needs to come forward, please. If anyone has seen anything out there, please notify the local Hillsboro Police Department and let's get this solved because this guy is still out there, and he could still be running people over."
