PORTLAND, Ore. — A young father is dead after a shooting in downtown Portland early Sunday, according to the Portland Police Bureau.
At around 2:41 a.m. Portland police officers assigned to the Central Precinct’s Entertainment District Detail heard shots fired near West Burnside Street and Southwest 3rd Avenue. When officers responded, they found a man in a parking lot dead, Portland police said.
PPB identified the victim Monday as Lee A. Maurus, 22. The agency said his family has been notified of his death, and they provided photos of Maurus and his son.
The county medical examiner confirmed that Maurus' death was a homicide by gunshot. The shooting suspect or suspects left the area before police arrived and no arrests have been made.
Portland police said the Portland Police Homicide Unit responded to the scene and are investigating the shooting. During the investigation, West Burnside Street and Southwest 3rd Avenue were closed.
