PORTLAND, Ore. — A student is being treated for a gunshot wound after a shooting near Jefferson High School in North Portland on Monday afternoon, according to the Portland Police Bureau.
Officers were dispatched to a local hospital shortly before 4:30 p.m. for a report of a "walk-in gunshot victim." The student's injuries are not believed to be life-threatening.
Police learned that two 17-year-olds had just left Jefferson High School in a car and were driving near North Killingsworth and North Haight Avenue around 3:30 p.m. when someone else in a vehicle fired off several rounds at them, hitting their car. One of the students was hit in the shoulder and they then went to seek medical attention.
PPB said that officers canvassed the area where the shooting reportedly happened and found evidence at the scene. Portland's Enhanced Community Safety Team, one of two gun violence teams in the city, responded to assume control of the investigation.
Less than a month ago, two students were reportedly shot outside of the Jefferson High School gym just after school let out. Police found a white Hyundai crashed nearby that they believed was linked to the shooting. PPB has not mentioned any arrests in this case.
