PORTLAND, Ore. — Two people were injured when someone fired dozens of rounds at a North Portland park on Friday, the Portland Police Bureau (PPB) said.
Around 4:05 p.m., officers responded to reports about a shooting at Dawson Park. When they arrived, officers found one person who had been shot, who was then transported to a hospital. A second person, police said, went to the hospital on their own.
Both are expected to survive, as confirmed by PPB Chief Bob Day in a press release.
A vehicle had pulled up to Dawson Park, with "at least one person inside" firing in the direction of the park, according to the initial investigation by PPB's Focused Intervention Team and Enhanced Community Safety Team. Officers found more than 70 shell casings at the scene.
The suspect or suspects had fled the scene before officers arrived. There is no one in custody, said Mike Benner, PPB's public information officer.
