GRESHAM, Ore. — Gresham police detectives are investigating a suspicious death that was discovered earlier this week and later determined to be a homicide, according to a news release from the Gresham Police Department.

Police officers found 76-year-old William "Tom" Vaughn dead on Monday night when they conducted a welfare check at a location along Southeast Stark Street near the intersection with Southeast 208th Avenue, in Gresham's North Central neighborhood. Detectives later concluded that his death was a homicide, police said.

The news release mentioned that police are in contact with Vaughn's family, but did not include any further information about the circumstances of the death, the reason police were conducting the welfare check or the type of building where the welfare check was being conducted. It also did not detail any of the factors that led detectives to rule the death a homicide, and did not mention any arrests and did not say if police are seeking any suspects.

Anyone with information about the case is asked to contact Detective Tyson Conroy at Tyson.Conroy@GreshamOregon.gov or Detective Justin Pick at Justin.Pick@GreshamOregon.gov.

This is a developing new story and will be updated if more information becomes available or is released by police.
