GRESHAM, Ore. — The Gresham Police Department has put out a call to the public in hopes of finding information about the killing of a man found on a sidewalk the day after Christmas.
Officers and paramedics responded to a 911 call at Southeast Division Street and 190th Avenue on the morning of Dec. 26, with the caller reporting that a man on the sidewalk was unresponsive. When paramedics arrived, they determined that the man was dead.
Cody J. Funk, 35, was homeless at the time of his death, according to Gresham police.
Detectives responded to the scene, beginning an investigation. The Multnomah County Medical Examiner later performed an autopsy, concluding that Funk died as a result of "homicidal violence." Gresham police did not provide any further details about the investigation into Funk's death.
Investigators have asked that anyone with information about the case or anyone who had contact with Funk in the days leading up to his death call the Gresham police tip line at 503-618-2719. They've also asked that anyone who drove a vehicle with a dash mounted camera on Division near 190th Avenue between midnight and 9:30 a.m. on Dec 26 check their cameras to see if they recorded anything at that location.
Tips can also be submitted anonymously to Crimestoppers of Oregon through their website or mobile app.
This is a developing story and may be updated with more details as they emerge.
