Police identify man who was shot and killed in Gresham

The man died after being shot early Saturday morning at a convenience store on East Burnside at 188th Avenue.

GRESHAM, Ore. — A man is dead after being shot early Saturday morning, Gresham Police Department said.

Officers responded to reports of a shooting near East Burnside Street and Southeast 188th Avenue around 1:00 a.m. where they found somebody had been shot. Despite medical aid at the scene and being transported to a local hospital, the man died of their injuries. 

He was identified on Sunday evening as 58-year-old Mauro Martinez Diaz of Gresham.

Police said Diaz was involved in multiple physical disturbances prior to the shooting.

Detectives are investigating. No arrests have been made, though police interviewed the person who fired the gunshot.

Police believe there are additional witnesses who had contact with the man prior to the shooting. Anyone with information is asked to call the Gresham Police Department tip line at 503-618-2719.
