SALEM, Ore. — Salem police on Thursday arrested a second man connected to Monday's shooting that injured three people in the parking lot of a Fred Meyer.
Jamie Eugene Thomason, 30, of Springfield, was one of the people shot in the parking lot. He was initially hospitalized after Monday's shooting but police arrested him Thursday. He faces the following charges: two counts of first-degree attempted murder with a firearm, two counts of first-degree assault with a firearm and felon in possession of a firearm, the Salem Police Department reported.
Robert Josh Jr., 62, of Springfield, was arrested Tuesday. He faces the following charges: second-degree attempted murder, first-degree assault and unlawful use of a weapon. He was taken to the Marion County Jail.
The shooting happened around 7:35 a.m. Monday outside the store near Market Street Northeast and Lancaster Drive Northeast. Officers initially found Thomason and a woman, 30-year-old Julia Thea Dora Dorfler of Eugene, with gunshot wounds in the parking lot. They later found a second man, identified as 28-year-old Chance Taylor Brason Towlerton of Springfield with a gunshot wound inside Elmer's Restaurant.
Towlerton was treated at the hospital and released. Dorfler was still in the hospital as of Tuesday and police did not report an update on her medical status in a Thursday news release. KGW has asked the Marion County District Attorney's Office for an update on Dorfler, but has yet to hear back as of Friday morning.
Salem police said everyone involved in the incident knew one another.
Officers also arrested Andrew Beebe, 28, on an outstanding parole violation warrant, but didn't release any information about that case.
A man who works at the nearby Denny's said he was picking up cans and trash from customers in the parking lot when he heard a woman scream.
"She screamed when the first gunshot went out, and the woman ran around the car," Jesus Rodriguez said.
Rodriguez said he heard three gunshots and the woman complained about pain.
"I thought, 'They're going to shoot me,' so I ran with the trash can through there, and I told the boss, 'They're shooting bullets over there,'" Rodriguez said.
He said he also saw two men, but he doesn't know if they were customers.
A Fred Meyer spokesperson released a statement.
"We are deeply saddened by the incident that occurred in the parking lot outside our Fred Meyer in Salem, Oregon. We are cooperating with local law enforcement and to protect the integrity of the investigation, we are referring questions to the Salem Police Department," the statement said.
