Fiancé of Portland woman whose body found in car appears in court

Jeannie Enyeart’s fiancé, Jon French, appeared in court Wednesday to face charges of murder and abuse of a corpse.

PORTLAND, Ore. — The fiancé of a Portland woman whose body was found in the trunk of her car appeared in court on Wednesday to face charges of murder and abuse of a corpse.

Jon French, 33, was arrested on Monday, Feb. 5, and booked into the Multnomah County Detention Center, following the disappearance of his fiancé Jeannie Enyeart.  French is currently being held without bail.

Enyeart had been last seen by neighbors on Saturday, Jan. 27, near her home in Northeast Portland. Two days later, her car was found stuck in a snow berm in Skamania County in Washington state, more than an hour away. Enyeart's body was later discovered by Portland detectives in the back seat of the car, covered by various large items, according to probable cause paperwork.

A medical examiner's autopsy determined Enyeart died of homicidal violence, specifically blunt force trauma to the neck.

“We’ve been doing everything that we can just to get justice for my mom and for her grandchild as well," said her son, Antonio Enyeart.

PPB said French faces charges of second-degree murder and second-degree abuse of a corpse.

Jeannie Enyeart's brother, Mychal, told KGW during her disappearance that the family believed her fiancé may have played a role. He had heard reports from neighbors of physically seeing his sister getting hit.

"She cared for a lot of people," Antonio said. "She had a big heart... I hope that this touches many people, and I hope that they can relate or maybe feel this. Domestic violence is scary.”

French will appear again in court in March.
