Police arrest teen involved in Nov. 15 homicide Southeast Portland

Officer responded to a shooting at a business and found a man with a gunshot wound. He was taken to the hospital where he died.

PORTLAND, Ore. — A teen is facing a murder charge, three weeks after the deadly shooting of a man in Southeast Portland, according to Portland police.

Officers responded to a shooting on Nov. 15 at a business near Southeast 122nd Avenue and Clinton Street. They found Justin D. Sartin, also known as Justin Sartin-Scott, with a gunshot wound. He was taken to the hospital where he died. The medical examiner determined that the 25-year-old died from a gunshot wound and ruled his death a homicide.

Portland police did not name the business where the shooting occurred and said the suspect left the area.

Detectives investigated and determined that the suspect involved in the homicide was 18-year-old Malacai Gant. On Dec. 6, detectives arrested Gant, about three weeks after the deadly shooting.

Gant was taken to the Multnomah County Detention Center. He faces charges of murder in the second degree, unlawful use of a weapon and unlawful use of a motor vehicle.

Portland police didn't release any information surrounding whether Gant and Sartin knew each other. They said the case remains under investigation.
