Family of Washougal woman asks public for help in solving 2020 homicide

An unsolved homicide from 2020 is still keeping a Washington family up at night. Now they are pleading with the public for help in solving the case.

WASHOUGAL, Wash. — Sandra Ladd was murdered in the Summer Slope neighborhood of Washougal, Washington in June 2020.

Almost three and a half years later, her family still has no idea why and no clue of who did it.

"We need to have some closure to this," said Kelly Upjohn, Ladd’s niece. "Let my aunt have justice. We want more answers. We want to be able to understand what's going on and what's taking so long."

Over the weekend of June 12, 2020, Ladd was murdered in her home on 41st Street.

"The next thing that we know is 911 was called on June 14, which would have been Sunday," Upjohn said. "Somehow in that time, the murder took place. We haven't been told any of the details."

Ladd had just come back from a trip to Long Beach with her family, according to her niece.

"She was found at home and she had been stabbed," Upjohn said.

Ladd was 71 years old at the time of her death. Upjohn said she was dedicated to her four children and six grandkids.

"She devoted all of her time and love to her children," Upjohn said. "She always put everybody else first and herself last."

Ladd spent 30 years working at the Washougal School District as an administrative assistant.

Upjohn said someone must know something.

"Even if they are scared, they need to come forward for the family and for my aunt. We need justice," she said.

Crimestoppers of Oregon is assisting with the case. They are offering $2,500 in cash to anyone who gives a tip that leads to an arrest. Tips can remain anonymous.
