Domestic violence suspect arrested after crashing into police car

Portland police arrested a man for allegedly assaulting a woman on Saturday.

PORTLAND, Ore. -- Portland police arrested a man for allegedly assaulting a woman on Saturday.

Officers responded to a report of a man and woman fighting at a residence in the area of Southeast 174th Avenue and Powell Boulevard at about 4 p.m. on Saturday.

Officers spoke to the woman, who was a victim of domestic violence, said Portland Police Sgt. Pete Simpson. The man, 47-year-old Renne Leonard Carter, tried to flee in his car, hitting the rear bumper of a police car as he was trying to leave. The man was later captured at his residence in the 6700 block of Southeast 70th Avenue.

Carter is being held at the Multnomah County Jail on charges of fourth-degree assault (domestic violence), hit and run, DUII and reckless driving.
