GOBLE, Ore. — Deputies from the Columbia County Sheriff's Office served a search warrant at a property in Goble on Friday after Columbia County Animal Control received a report that a resident was freezing litters of puppies to feed to their pet snakes.
Deputies recovered and seized 18 dead frozen puppies from the property. The bodies of the puppies were transported to the Oregon Humane Society, where their cause of death will be determined.
A snake was also seized by the Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife as part of the investigation. Several snakes were located at the residence.
Columbia County Sheriff Brian Pixley told KGW that no arrests have been made yet "as the investigation is still ongoing."
Oregon State Police and the Columbia County District Attorney's Office have also assisted in the investigation.
Goble is a small community along the Columbia River on the Oregon-Washington border, across the river from Kalama, Washington. It's about 40 miles northwest of Portland.
