PORTLAND, Ore. — A Salem man has been arrested on charges relating to a bank robbery at the Washington Federal Bank on Broadway Street in Salem.
At approximately 3:50 p.m. on Friday, Salem police responded to reports that a man had threatened a bank teller and demanded money while displaying "what appeared to be a hand gun," according to Salem Police Department. The teller complied and the man fled the scene.
Salem police said the suspect was soon identified as 63-year-old Bernardino Muniz.
Nearly six hours after the robbery, around 9:30 p.m., a Salem Police SWAT team arrested Muniz on first-degree robbery charges outside his home around 2600 Front Street Northeast. Evidence of the crime was recovered during a warrant search of his home, Salem police said.
