2 teens shot in Southeast Portland

A 14-year-old girl and a 17-year-old boy were both taken to the hospital. They're expected to survive. The suspect, a 19-year-old man, was arrested.

PORTLAND, Ore. — Two teens, a 14-year-old girl and a 17-year-old boy, were shot in Southeast Portland on Wednesday night, and a 19-year-old man was arrested, the Portland Police Bureau (PPB) reported Thursday morning.

The shooting happened just before midnight, around 11:57 p.m., in the area of Southeast 122nd Avenue and Harold Street. The girl was taken to the hospital, and after first going to a nearby home, the boy was also taken to the hospital. Police said both are expected to survive.

Two officers heard the shots and responded to the scene. They saw a car driving away from the scene and tried to stop it, but the driver kept going. Officers pursued him and then set up a perimeter after he drove down a long driveway near Southeast Foster Road and Jenne Road, almost three miles away from where the shooting happened.

With the help of Gresham police and Multnomah County Sheriff's Office deputies and a drone, the suspect, a 19-year-old man, was found within the perimeter and arrested. Police did not name the suspect or provide any other information.

The Enhanced Community Safety Team is investigating the shooting, PPB said.
