PORTLAND, Oregon — Two teenage boys have been arrested for child abduction after they stole a car with a 2-year-old girl inside in late November, Portland police said. The girl was found safe a short time later.

A 13-year-old boy has been charged with second-degree kidnapping, first-degree robbery and unlawful use of a motor vehicle. The other boy, 14, was charged with unlawful use of a motor vehicle.

The incident happened near the intersection of Northeast Halsey Street and Northeast 126th Avenue on November 30. The girl was sitting in the car while it warmed up, and her father had briefly gone inside their family home. He came back out just as a person jumped into the car and began driving off.

A short time later, a neighbor saw the car driving recklessly about a mile away from the theft side and spotted the girl walking down the street. They flagged a nearby police officer and the girl was reunited with her parents.

"She had a really scared look on her face, she was shaking, but I think that was more the result of, she was out walking without socks," said Will Stevens, the girls' father.

Danielle Tran, who found the missing girl, said she had no shoes on, and her feet were red.

Later that evening, the car was found in the area of Southeast Morrison Terrace and Southeast 202nd Avenue in Gresham. The suspects had fled the area.

Anyone with information about the case is asked to contact Detective Michael Greenlee at michael.greenlee@police.portlandoregon.gov.
